Welcome to The Concert Photo Of The Day for 06/24/13 .

"I awoke and faintly bouncing round the room..."

Faintly bouncing...that might be an apt description of myself today. Tweeked my back yesterday and I'm gingerly moving through the world this morning with the mind willing and the body faintly able. As the hours go on, I'm confident that the bounce will return back to my usual Tigger self.

So, I'm going to do a bit of the positive visualization thang and bounce in my mind...at least for the beginning of the day. Which, in my random path of inspiration has brought me to Phish and Mike Gordon Band bassist, Mike Gordon. Now, I have any number of photos with that classic rock and roll move, The Hair Flip but, to tell the truth, I'm pretty sure that this and a few photos take immediately before and after this one, are the only snapshots that have a Hair Bounce.

And I had to work hard to capture it.

There I was on what can only be described, even for Tennesee, as a steamy evening as Phish took the stage in a seriously epic Bonnaroo throwdown. As is my normal plan of action, I was rotating focus on each of the members of Phish and while taking a few photos of Trey Anastasio, I peripherally
noticed Mike bouncing in place...sans trampoline. By the time I swung my lens around to his direction, the bouncing stopped. Oh well, you can't capture all those moments.

A few minutes later, while taking some photos of Page McConnell, Mike started bouncing in place again. What was different about this was, at least to my ears and eyes, the bounce didn't have a connect with a particular section of music. It was as if Mike was listening to his own private metronome and when the urge to bounce hit him, he bounced. Those sort of random moments are the hardest ones to catch on camera because there are no clues to when they will happen. Again, I switched gears and swung the camera lens around only to have Mr. Gordon stop bouncing. Finally, as the song and included jam continued, I had gotten photos of each member and decided to stay focused on Mike and see if lightning would strike a third time. The jam stretched out and started to morph into the next song selection and it looked like I wasn't going to get a bounce photo.

And then, with a final coda of the original song, I could see Gordon start to rock on his feet and, sure enough, the knees coiled and he was airborn with his hair spreading out like a rock and roll branded mop soaking up the last juice of the jam.

Today's photo was taken with a Canon 40D camera body coupled with a Canon EF 200 mm f/2.0 IS L lens. The camera settings were ISO 1250, f/2.0 and a shutter speed of 1/800 of a second.
